My Addiction

So I have this problem, a little addiction I have developed; my mothers little helper if you will. Coffee…..it’s coffee, I hope you weren’t thinking anything else! I drink it all day, switching to decaf in the evenings, however my husband tells me that even decaf has a little bit of caffeine in it (I’m not sure that’s true, I’ll have to do a google search on it later). Like many women in this hurried, harried, world, I have come to depend on coffee to get me through my day; it isn’t a good thing, but it is my reality for now, at least as long as the kids are little. I try to balance it out with lots of water, but then I just have to pee all the time, and who has time for that! (I’m kidding of course!) So my skin sometimes doesn’t look as glowy, or dewy, or youthful as I would like it to look, as the caffeine dries me out from the inside. Because of this (and because I live through dry Canadian winters) I have come to rely on an arsenal of moisturizing and brightening products to make me look like I had at least a little bit of sleep. So here comes my other addiction….moisturizers, serums, and cleansers, oh my! More specifically I adore anything and everything from Avalon Organics. It is by far the best product line that I have come across. It is affordable, organic, cruelty free, environmentally friendly, and the products do exactly what they claim to do. I can also just pick it up in the health section of my local grocery store, which is awesome. I have been using their Intense Defence line of products for well over a year now, and it is fabulous. my skin always feels fresh and moisturized, and hopefully I am staving off any wrinkles that might already be trying to emerge! This is what the Avalon Organics website has to say about this line….

“Environmental aggressors such as UV rays and pollution create free radicals on the skin that cause premature signs of visible aging.  Studies show that antioxidants can neutralize these damaging free radicals.  Intense Defense balances vitamin C, white tea and lemon bioflavonoids to defend skin and support its natural renewal cycle.”

And it smells like oranges, which is always a bonus!

I also use their lavender scented shampoo, which is wonderful, and their lemon scented hand and body lotion is my best friend through the winter months. The only product that disappointed me was their conditioner. I really wanted to like it, but alas I just couldn’t.

They also make a line of wrinkle defence products, which I have yet to try (maybe I can wait a few more years), and a line of products for sensitive skin.

Another brand, which is pricier, but also all natural, that I have fallen in love with is Josie Maran. I started using her Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47 back in the summer, ‘cuz a pasty freckly girl like me needs those good mineral sun blockers. It is by far the best non-chemical sunscreen I have used, and if anything is going to help keep wrinkles at bay this is it! It also comes in a tinted version that I have yet to try. I have also been using her 100% Pure Argan Oil under my moisturizer, I have both the light and the regular, and it is wonderful and very moisturizing, without feeling too heavy. It is not cheap stuff, but a little goes a long way. I bought this set from Sephora and it has lasted me quite a while.

One last thing that I can’t live without is my Burt’s Bees lip balm. The coconut and pear scented one is my favourite!
