Eyebrows on Fleek? My Review of the 1000 Hour Eyelash and Brow Dye Kit

My post for this week was supposed to be a gushy, glowing review of 1000 Hour Lash and Brow Dye. I purchased it back in the summer and used it a number of times with great success. I loved how it made my makeup routine so much easier! I have plenty of brow hairs, but they are quite blonde, so I spend a fair bit of time filling them in when I do my makeup.

So last Friday in preparation for this post I got out my dye kit, mixed the colour with the activator, and smeared that lovely brown goo all over my brows.

I let it sit for exactly seven minutes on each brow, and wiped it off to reveal beautiful, lush, full, dark brows. I mean, not to brag but they might have made a Kardashian jealous.

All seemed well and good, until a few hours later, when the burning, itching, and swelling started. By the following morning my brows were so swollen that my eyelids had almost disappeared. The images below are from Friday evening; they were not at their worst yet.

Thank goodness I now wear glasses when I am out and about, as it helped to hide how bad it was. It is now the following Tuesday, and my brows are still wicked itchy but thankfully I no longer look like I got punched in both eyes.

After a bit of googling I found out this is not an uncommon reaction to hair dye. There is a chemical called PPD or paraphenylenediamine (try saying that ten times fast), that is in almost all conventional dyes, and many women report becoming allergic to it even after years of use. Thankfully I did not use the dye on my lashes, as I have in the past. I might have ended up looking something like this guy…

……not the look I am going for. Some women who have had eyelash tinting and had this reaction have reported nearly going blind.

So if you are a lass (or lad) who can use hair dye without issue, and you are wise and do a patch test before slapping this stuff on your face, I would say this kit is really easy to use and looks great (especially after the swelling goes down). However I will be avoiding any and all hair dyes from this point forward. I would be afraid to even have my hair professionally coloured, which is really unfortunate because after four kids, my grey hair is starting to get out of hand.

Oh and one last thing; I would be remiss if I did not mention the hero in this brow fiasco — Benadryl Cream. I love you Benadryl Cream. ❤️

Have you ever tried brow tinting? Have you ever had a severe reaction to a beauty product? Let me know in the comments!
